School Security

The security staff of Mountain State University has extensive backgrounds in the field of security. The Director of Campus Safety is a certified law enforcement instructor with twenty nine years of law enforcement experience. The campus is patrolled twenty-four hours a day on foot and by vehicle. The officers are armed with ASP Batons, handguns, and OC spray, with which, all state standards of law enforcement have been met. MSU safety officers are required to attend in-service classes each year through our continuing educational program established by the campus safety department. These measures and training standards were developed solely for the protection and safety of the campus community.

SchoolMessenger Emergency Notification Service

"Beginning in the Fall of 2008 Mountain State University (MSU) will provide students, faculty, and staff a new free of charge emergency notification service. MSU has partnered with SchoolMessenger (http://www.schoolmessenger.com), a technology company specializing in outreach communications for K - 12 and Higher Education markets. In the event of an on campus emergency, MSU Campus Safety will use SchoolMessenger to rapidly place mass telephone calls to a predetermined list of students, faculty, and staff. The automated message you receive from SchoolMessenger will contain important information for the safety of the MSU community.

The predetermined list of telephone numbers will be securely maintained in Cougar Web (https://online.mountainstate.edu/ics/) and updated regularly based on each semester's enrollment for on-campus classes at each location. The preparatory groundwork of collecting immediate contact telephone numbers from students is vital to make this new service a success. Coming soon during your next Cougar Web log in, you will be prompted to either provide your current cell phone number, or you may otherwise choose to opt out of the service. The SchoolMessenger is an excellent solution for communication in the event of an emergency and MSU is happy to be able to offer it. We take great pride in providing a safe learning environment for our students and thank you for your support."
